ISLE, Minn. (WCCO) — Lake Mille Lacs is starting to thaw, and with it comes massive piles of ice making their way onto the southeastern shore.
The mountains of ice were up to 30 feet tall, according to Steve Johnson, owner of Johnson's Portside, who has taken numerous videos of the phenomenon and posted them to his Facebook page.
Johnson's Portside posted a video on Facebook of the ice piling up. Ice has arrived on the shores of Mille Lacs Lake. In a … Winds blasting across Mille Lacs Lake at 40 mph this week resulted in huge piles of ice swallowing shorelines and smashing into at least one cabin. When the ice on Mille Lacs Lake starts to move in high winds, it is basically similar to a Glacier moving and will not stop until it crashes on shore and into anything in its path which will be pushed out of the way including large boulders and tracks of land and even a house.
