Our last two days from Porsmork contrasted well with the 4-day hike of the Laugavegur. It's the most famous trail in Iceland by far.
We are planning on doing the LAUGAVEGUR Trail over 3 days in July. A few years ago I hiked it in three days. I would have preferred to go to Landmannalaugar a day ahead and then head to Álftavatn the next day. Journey through active, geothermal lava fields, the Rhyolite Mountains, and snow-covered passes. I did Alftavatn to Landmannalaugar in one day, which was quite easy.If you don't mind walking 30km and the weather is fair, doing Hrafntinnusker to Emstrur in one day should not be a problem. This may sound like a high price, when you add up all the days on the trail, but remember that you'll be spending a lot of your days in misty rains and cold.
Its well-worn tread, cozy huts, steady stream of trekkers, and frequent wood marking posts make it a relatively safe and logistically easy venture. Our packing list: Running clothes: Trail shoes, socks, shorts and longer running pants, short and long sleeved shirts. A spectacular trail that would have required some imaginative planning. The snack breaks with multiple choices of chocolate - chip to hazelnut cookies and unending chocolate.
