In 1974 Lou Reed was getting infamously known for being a drug user, though he was mostly playing around with the idea rather than actually abusing drugs, he also promoted gay sex and transgenders (for example in the song “Walk On The Wild Side”). He studied at Syracuse University with the poet Delmore Schwartz, and in 1964, he founded The Velvet Underground with John Cale.
