There is no limitation on the amount of sick leave that can be accumulated. The purpose of Paid Time Off (PTO) is to provide employees with flexible paid time off from work that can be used for such needs as vacation, personal, or family illness, doctor appointments, school, volunteerism, and other activities of the employee's choice.
The PTO days you accrue, effective (date) replace all existing vacation, sick time, and personal business days that you have been allotted under prior policies. Employees must give their employer a doctor’s ‘fit note’ (sometimes called a ‘sick note’) if they’ve been ill for more than 7 days in a row and have taken sick leave. You can begin using accrued sick leave 120 days after the date that the agreement expires. Advanced Sick Leave. An agency may also grant up to 240 hours (30 days) of advanced sick leave for an employee's own illness, injury, pregnancy, childbirth, or exposure to a communicable disease. Whenever I took a day off because it was available, THEY put me down for sick, not me. For companies subject to the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), the Act does require unpaid sick leave.
