Photo: The Tank Museum/Haynes Publishing. The Black Prince was to be the final, ultimate form of the A22 Infantry Tank Mk.IV, better known as the Churchill. A few vehicles underwent trials but never saw action. Developed from 1943 through 1945 on the basis of the Churchill tank. A total of six Black Prince prototypes were produced from 1944 through 1945. The Black Prince marked the end of the development of the Churchill tank, and the end of the Infantry tank concept in British tank design. The King of the Churchills. Edward of Woodstock, known to history as the Black Prince (15 June 1330 – 8 June 1376), was the eldest son of King Edward III of England, and thus the heir to the English throne.He died before his father and so his son, Richard II, succeeded to the throne instead. It was named after Edward, the Black Prince, a famous 14th century military leader. The TFV12 Prince Tank features a new Cobra widebore drip tip made with dyed resin materials and a striking scale pattern to complete the phenomenal system. Survivors The only surviving Black Prince tank is held by the Bovington Tank Museum in Bovington, UK; it is the fourth of the six prototypes that were built.
