Egyptian Modern Art Museum by Seif Kamel In Egypt's urban centers in the twentieth and now the twenty-first century, the growing interest in world art was part of an expanding international awareness and a booming modernist culture. The Museum of Modern Egyptian Art in Cairo has 10,000 paintings and statues on display. The Museum of Modern Egyptian Art is also known as the Gezira Center for Modern Art and the Egyptian Modern Art Museum.
THis is small but gives a good flavour of Egyptian Modern art. The museum’s highlights are Mahmoud Mukhtar’s deco-elegant bronze Bride of the Nile, along with Mahmoud Said’s painting Al Madina (The City, 1937). This vast collection of 20th- and 21st-century Egyptian art is set in the green, well-groomed Gezira Exhibition Grounds, across from the Cairo Opera House.
